Handwoven Rugs
Hand-woven rugs are created with the help of a wood and metal piece called a shuttle that a weaver moves rhythmically back and forth across the loom in an east-west direction, building up the weft of the rug row by row. Hand-weaving is less labor-intensive than hand-knotting, with each rug taking about two months to weave, depending on the design. This technique is most often used for one-color rugs, or designs with large fields of the same color, as the shuttle yarn must change each time the design employs a new color.
